Hi, I’m Victor. I arrived in Australia a year ago, and like many newcomers, I was looking for a quick and flexible way to generate income while I adapted. Since my English wasn’t perfect yet, and I didn’t have any local work experience, I decided to try my luck with Uber Eats… and I didn’t expect it to work so well if you approach it with strategy.
¡My Tips for Earning More with Uber Eats in a Car!
1. Choose your orders wisely:
Not all trips are worth it. A good reference is earning between $1.50 to $2.00 AUD per kilometer. If an order takes you far and pays little, it’s best to reject it and wait for a more profitable one.
2. Take advantage of key hours:
My best earnings come from working during:
Morning: 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Lunch: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Dinner: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Weekends, especially Friday and Saturday nights, are the busiest: I’ve earned between $300 and $350 AUD per day during those times.
3. Make the most of Uber Eats promotions:
Uber Eats offers bonuses for completing a certain number of deliveries or working in high-demand areas. Plan your time to hit these targets… they really make a difference in your weekly income.
4. Get to know the city and use your judgment:
Don’t always follow the GPS to the letter. Sometimes there are quicker routes with less traffic. Also, avoid areas where parking is difficult or where traffic causes you to lose time between deliveries.
5. Reduce expenses and take care of your car:
Keeping your car in good condition and managing fuel consumption is key. I look for areas where I can make several deliveries without having to move too far between them.
6. Use more than one app:
Don’t limit yourself to Uber Eats. I’ve also signed up for DoorDash and Menulog. Activating multiple platforms helps me maintain a steady flow of orders throughout the day.
✅ The Benefits of Working with Uber Eats
✔️ Total freedom: You decide when and how much you work.
✔️ Weekly (or daily) payments: You can receive your money every week or withdraw it the same day.
✔️ Get to know the city: It’s ideal if you’ve just arrived and want to get situated.
✔️ Independence: Work while listening to music or podcasts.
✔️ Gain driving experience: This really helped me prepare for the Australian driver’s license test.
❌ What They Don’t Tell You
❌ Car wear: More kilometers mean more maintenance.
❌ Hidden expenses: Gas, insurance, and small details that add up.
❌ Slow days: There are moments of low demand where you have to be patient.
❌ Weather conditions: Heavy rain or very hot days can make the job more difficult and slow.
What Do You Need to Start?
Here’s what I had to prepare:
A car in good condition.
A valid Australian driver’s license (if yours is from another country, you’ll need to translate it).
Car insurance (at least third-party insurance)
ABN (Australian Business Number)
An Australian bank account.
A visa that allows you to work legally (I have a student visa)
Important: Translate your license with Entrelingo to activate your account quickly
One of the most common mistakes I see in other new delivery drivers is waiting until the last minute to translate their license. This delays their account activation and makes them lose work days (and money!)
✅ If you haven’t translated your license yet, do it now and start earning income as soon as possible here.
Are you ready to try?
Working with Uber Eats isn’t for everyone, but for many of us, it’s been an excellent way to get started in Australia, explore the city, gain confidence, and have a decent income from the very first month.
Do you have any questions? Are you already working with any delivery app? Tell me in the comments. I’m happy to help others who, like me, are starting from scratch! – Victor.
